Job Description

Job Summary: The Finisher prepares work-in-progress (WIP) or raw materials for the next operation (next op) in the fabrication process with specific finishing tools and machines. The Finisher receives specific work assignments under general supervision and resolves most problems with limited supervisory assistance. All work is subject to final inspection and test to minimize metal damage and control excess labor and material expense. The Finisher is expected to practice and adhere to the Company s Six Sigma principles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties assigned as necessary:
  • Reviews job orders (written or verbal) and interprets finishing specifications.
  • Performs various material preparation tasks including:
  • Grinding operating a stationary/portable grinder to remove excess metal from weld seams, castings, etc.
  • Scraping using a hand scraper to remove weld BB s.
  • Deburring removing sharp edges on material after punching or shearing operations.
  • Conducts pressure tests of tanks and other ArcRon fabrications.
  • Performs other tests (e.G. Paint adhesion) as necessary.
  • Assembles components for products to meet customer expectations.
  • Inspects all work visually and by measurement as necessary to ensure specifications are met.
  • Cleans and maintains work area (daily), finishing equipment and other tools of the trade.
  • Works in a safe manner at all times.
  • Insures that all work is done in accordance with and adheres to IEA s ISO and Quality standards.

Physical Demands:
Maximum lifting requirement (pounds): 50 (frequently).
Maximum moving requirement (pounds): 100 with assistance.
Maintaining physical condition necessary for the following: Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting, and twisting upper body; occasional climbing or sitting.
Working at heights off the ground up to: 10 feet.
Vision requirements: Close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception.

Work Environment:
Work location: Welding shop, metal fabrication/assembly shop.
Exposure to: Hot objects (burns), glare (flashing), sparks and flying objects (metal chips and scale), fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical equipment, and noise levels of 85dBA or above.
Personal protective equipment requirement: Safety glasses, ANSI safety shoes, ear protection and job-specific safety gear as necessary.

Position Requirements:
Key skills, abilities and knowledge:
Basic knowledge of standard finishing and welding practices and methods.
Ability to conduct various testing procedures and correctly interpret results.
Skill in using and maintaining finishing equipment and related tools of the trade.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with others.
Experiential: Three or more years of finishing/welding-type experience in a metal fabrication environment.
Educational: Formal apprenticeship training is desirable but not essential.
Certificates, Licenses: Fork lift operator certification.
