Summary
CNC Lathe (Dewoo Puma)
Responsible for moderate & complex programming, fixturing, tooling, machining, in process inspection, and final completion of often geometrically complicated, and tightly toleranced details (+/- 0.0002). Work with CNC machinists, toolmakers, engineers, and supervisors to plan and execute the most cost-effective method for producing 100% accurately dimensioned, short run parts/components, with little in the way of excess/disposable parts.
(This is not a production machine tool operation position.)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Under limited supervision, perform moderate & complex machining and Inspection of various parts, tools, and machine components in support of production
Comprehend and work off ISO/ANSI prints, sketches, and written specifications
Devise and create unique processes, setups, programs, and tooling
Operate several types of machine tools and perform progressive machining operations for parts, tools, and components with close tolerances and/or high finish requirements
Fit and, where necessary, assemble components using machinist s hand tools and measuring instruments
Ensure complete dimensional accuracy and quality workmanship
Maintain a safe, orderly, and clean workstation
Train apprentices and new hires, when required
Complete time travelers, time slips, document required inspections, and appropriate paperwork

Education and/or Experience
Journeyman Machinist Certificate, Technical Degree preferred
5+ years experience with machine shop environment, practices, procedures, and equipment
3+ years experience with setting up, programming, and running turret lathes/turning centers
1+ years experience with setting up, programming, and running mill/turns

Qualifications & Skills
Proficiency in reading and interpretation of ISO/ANSI prints, GD&T, and mechanical drawings
Proficient skillset in operation of manual and CNC lathe equipment
Familiarity with use, and modification of carbide & HSS drills, reamers, taps, end mills, thread mills, and inserted OD and ID cutting tools
Proficient knowledge of feeds & speeds with large swath of materials & insert grades/configurations
Wide ranging knowledge of machineability for ferrous and non-ferrous materials
Proficiency in programming using CAM/conversational systems
Proficient knowledge of basic G & M codes
High competency at determining accurate methods, and execution of inspection for lengths, diameters, straightness, flatness, roundness, concentricity, cylindricity, runout, true position, surface finish, etc.
Extensive problem-solving capabilities using creative, and critical thinking skills
Excellent ability to work effectively in a collaborative team
Ability to organize and manage priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Additional Qualifications & Skills
Familiarity with Mastercam and Okuma AOT as well as Fanuc and Proto Trak controls
History of designing and manufacturing/modifying various turning tools & inserts using other machine tools (mills, grinders, EDM) to create unique tooling setups for odd geometrical challenges
Familiarity with turret lathe claustrophobia and maintaining tight clearance between turret, tooling, work pieces, chuck, jaws, various forms of workholding, way covers, etc.
Incredible 3-D spatial reasoning and foresight
Outstanding troubleshooting capabilities
Ability to think outside the box
Self-guided thirst for knowledge and education into the ever-changing field of manufacturing
Drive for continuous improvement
Toolbox containing accurate and well-kept personal inspection & assembly equipment, commensurate with the trade and the reasonable expectations it demands of its professionals
