Buyer/Planner

Summary of Position:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Buyer/Planner to join our team. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and services, maintaining optimal inventory levels, and fostering strong vendor relationships. This role demands a commitment to quality, on-time delivery, and effective cost management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize MRP (Material Requirements Planning) software to accurately determine material and service needs for production.

  • Prepare requests for emergency orders and formal purchase orders efficiently and precisely.

  • Analyze costs, negotiate prices, and secure favorable terms for goods and services to achieve cost reduction goals.

  • Monitor existing purchase orders to ensure timely deliveries and proactively address potential delays.

  • Maintain consistent and effective communication with vendors regarding delivery schedules, quality issues, and cost concerns.

  • Expedite supplier orders as required to prevent production disruptions and meet demanding timelines.

  • Perform assigned tasks aimed at achieving total cost reductions in material and contracted services, supporting the overall manufacturing process.

  • Execute purchasing processes to provide necessary goods and services on a timely, competitive, and cost-effective basis, including purchase order preparation and resolution of invoice discrepancies.

  • Ensure inventory levels of all purchased items are maintained in accordance with established purchasing practices and company targets.

  • Build and maintain a robust and reliable vendor base, continually evaluating performance and exploring new opportunities.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and quality, to support operational needs.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the purchasing department and overall company objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:

    • 2-5 years of direct experience as a Buyer, with a preference for candidates demonstrating career stability.

    • Alternatively, 5+ years of strong, relevant experience in a purchasing role if a related degree is not held.

    • Minimum of three years of experience in the heavy manufacturing industry.

    • Proven experience using an ERP system; Epicor experience is a plus but not a requirement.

    • Demonstrated experience with negotiation, data analysis, and strategic thinking.

  • Education:

    • Related degree in Supply Chain Management or Business is highly preferred, or equivalent experience.

  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Exceptional integrity and a strong commitment to ethical purchasing practices.

    • Outstanding commitment to quality and meticulous attention to detail.

    • Thorough knowledge of MRP/ERP software and understanding of assembly workflow as it relates to supply chain management.

    • Strong problem-solving, time-management, and organizational skills.

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

    • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Salary:

  • $60,000 - $80,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
